Health Monitoring Unit Cracks Down on Mismanagement in Kisoro Health Facilities

The Health Monitoring Unit (HMU), in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), is currently conducting routine monitoring in Kisoro District. As part of this exercise, authorities have arrested Nkunda Abel, a Stores Assistant at Busanza HCIV, on allegations of embezzling medicines from the health facility. The suspect has since been released on bond, and investigations are ongoing.

During the same monitoring exercise, the HMU visited Geteriteri HCIII, which was found abandoned at the time of the team’s visit. A review of the facility’s attendance records revealed that the In-charge, Dr. Habumugisha Innocent, had reported to work for only nine days between January 9, 2025, and March 6, 2025. Additionally, other medical staff who were supposed to be on duty were absent.

As a result, five health workers, including the In-charge, were detained for further investigation. The arrested individuals are:

  • Dr. Habumugisha Innocent (In-charge)
  • Nshirimana Edgar (Nurse)
  • Mahoro Esther (Nurse)
  • Irakunda Innocent (Nurse)
  • Habumugisha Edward (Health Inspector)

The five suspects were released on bond to allow them to report back to their duty stations as investigations continue.
